Where the Name Comes From
Firmitas, Utilitas, Venustas.
Around 15 BC, the Roman architect and engineer Vitruvius wrote De Architectura, laying out three principles every structure must satisfy: firmitas (strength and durability), utilitas (utility and function), and venustas (beauty and proportion).
Two thousand years later, the order still matters. A beautiful structure that fails is a failure. A functional one that crumbles is a liability. Firmitas comes first because everything else — the utility, the craftsmanship — is only worth something if the concrete holds.
We named the company after that principle on purpose. It’s not a tagline. It’s the standard we hold our own work to on every placement, every girder set, every deck.
What We Focus On
Bridges. Structural concrete. Nothing diluted.
We don’t chase every trade on a jobsite. Our work is the structural concrete scope on bridge and roadway projects — columns, caps, girder placement, deck placements, and flatwork, including riprap, sidewalks, and bridge railing.
Staying focused on that scope means fewer surprises for the general contractors and agencies we work with, and a crew that has done this specific work enough times to get it right the first time.
